Towns that make up the local government are Ozubulu, Oraifite, Ichi, Ihembosi.
Ekwusigo is made up of twelve wards: Ozubulu with Six wards; Oraifite with Three wards; Ihembosi with Two wards while Ichi has One ward only.
Ozubulu is the local government Headquarters.

Ekwusigo local government was created in August 1996 by General Sani Abacha - the then head of state and commander in chief of the armed forces, federal republic of Nigeria. Ekwusigo local government was founded by Chief [Dr] Mike A Obi as the first head and sole administrator of Ekwusigo Local Government Area in Anambra State of Nigeria.
ReplyDeleteIn 1996, when Ekwusigo local government council was newly created, Mike Obi was appointed by the then military governor – Group Catpain Rufai Garba to found the new local government as the sole administrator.
Chief [Dr] Mike A Obi was the founding father of Ekwusigo local government. He founded Ekwusigo local government with shared resources from Nnewi local government and Ihiala local government as well as allocations from both Anambra state and federal government of Nigeria.
Mike Obi built the Ekwusigo local government headquarters at Ozubulu and set up the administrative processes. He reconstructed and modernized the markets in the various towns making up the local government and successfully conducted the election of chairman and councilors for the new local government before he handed over power to Chief Mrs V.V.I okoye.
